Account Deletion Policy

At Getembe News, we respect your right to data privacy and give you full control over your personal data and account credentials. This Account Deletion Policy explains how registered users of our website and mobile application can request or perform account deletion and what happens to your data upon account removal.

1. How to Delete Your Account (Self-Service)

If you have an active Getembe News user, editor, or author account, you can delete your account and associated profile data at any time by following these steps:

1. Log into your account at getembetv.co.ke/login or via the Getembe News Mobile Application.
2. Navigate to your User Profile & Settings page (or click getembetv.co.ke/profile).
3. Scroll down to the Delete Account section at the bottom of the profile page.
4. Enter your current password to confirm authorization.
5. Click Delete Account. Your account will be permanently deleted immediately.

2. Manual Account Deletion Request (Mobile App & Web Visitors)

If you cannot access your account or are using the mobile app and prefer to request manual deletion, you can submit an account deletion request via email or contact form:

• Email Request: Send an email to privacy@getembetv.co.ke or info@getembetv.co.ke with the subject line "Account Deletion Request". Please send the request from the email address registered with your account.
• Online Contact Form: Submit a request via our Contact Support Page specifying your registered username and email address.

Manual deletion requests submitted via email or contact support are reviewed and completed within 48 hours.

3. Data Removed Upon Account Deletion

When your account is deleted, the following data is permanently erased from our primary database servers and cannot be recovered:

• Your account credentials (email address, hashed password, user ID).
• Your personal profile details (full name, bio, profile photo, social links).
• Your saved bookmark list and reading history.
• Your newsletter and alert notification subscriptions.
• Your active session tokens and mobile app login state.

4. Retention of Financial Records & Editorial Scope

This policy governs user account deletion, profile removal, and personal credentials. Please note:

• Financial Records: Payment receipts for paid announcements or advertising (such as M-Pesa transaction codes) are retained for accounting and legal compliance.
• Public Comments & Editorial Content: Public comments submitted by the account will have personal profile links removed and anonymized to "Deleted User". This policy covers user account deletion and does not govern editorial news content.
