The infant was discovered around 7 a.m. along the Riariga-Nyaguta road. Clothes belonging to the child were left with him inside the crate. There was no note, letter, or any identifying document such as a birth record or child health booklet accompanying the boy.
Residents and the local village elder quickly responded upon discovering the child. They took the infant to Keumbu Police Station, where a formal statement was recorded under Occurrence Book number 08/19/08/2026. The Assistant County Commissioner for Keumbu Division was also notified of the incident. From the police station, the baby was transferred to Keumbu Level Four Hospital for medical examination and care.
Hospital staff confirmed the child is receiving medical attention. Police in Keumbu have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the abandonment and to identify the parents or guardians. At the time of reporting, the parents remain unknown.
Residents in the area have appealed to members of the public, particularly those in neighbouring villages, to come forward if they have information about any missing child matching the description of the abandoned boy. They urged anyone with relevant details to report immediately to Keumbu Police Station to assist the ongoing probe.
Local sources described the discovery as deeply concerning. The child was left in a visible location beside the road, with his clothes packed alongside him, yet without any communication that might explain the circumstances or provide a path for reunification with family.
Police have called on anyone with information that could help identify the child’s parents or guardians to contact them without delay. Authorities are treating the matter with urgency as investigations continue.
The case has drawn attention in the Keumbu area, where community members expressed shock at the abandonment of such a young child. Officials from the children’s department and other relevant agencies are expected to become involved in determining the next steps for the infant’s long-term care and protection once medical assessments are complete and the police inquiry progresses.
Keumbu police reiterated their appeal for public cooperation, stressing that even minor details could prove useful in tracing the child’s origins. The investigation remains active, and further updates are anticipated as officers pursue leads in Geterere and surrounding villages in Nyamware Sublocation.
The infant’s condition is being monitored at the hospital, and authorities have prioritised his welfare while working to uncover who left him by the roadside and why. Residents continue to monitor the situation closely and have encouraged vigilance regarding any reports of missing children in the wider Kisii region.
