Government or opposition? The political battle for Fred Matiang’i is heating up, with Ruto allies pushing him to join the government while opposition leaders seek to keep him in their camp. Matiang’i, however, says he is ready to work with all leaders but not join the administration.
The remarks came during a funeral ceremony in Bobasi, where Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda publicly urged Matiang’i to join the government, saying:

“Mheshimiwa Matiang’i, we respect you, and some of us are in government, where you were in government. Sisi hatuwezi toka kwa serikali kwa sababu tunataka maendeleo, and that’s why we want to ask you to come to the government, tufanye kazi pamoja na yeye akuje tusonge mbele,” Jhanda said.

ODM Secretary-General Junet Mohammed told Matiang’i: “Ndugu yangu Fred, toka huko, rudi ODM ili tukusaidie. Twende tukatengeneze serikali pamoja, tukuwe na President William Ruto. Akimaliza wakati wake mwaka 2032, tutaweka wewe kuwa President kupitia ODM.”
Kitutu Chache North MP Japhet Nyakundi added: “Nimwambie ndugu yetu mkubwa, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, tunakujua na tunajua ulifanya kazi nzuri ukiwa katika wizara mbalimbali. Usitusiwe huko; wewe kuja tufanye kazi pamoja, kwa sababu katika hii Serikali ya William Ruto, nafasi yako iko.”
