OTILE BROWN’S FEUD WITH JOVIAL TAKES A DRAMATIC TURN WITH CONTROVERSIAL FUNERAL CLAIM.

Speaking on a podcast, Otile Brown opened up about his fallout with Jovial, saying the experience affected him deeply.

“Jovial is someone I’m saying today, even if I die, she is someone who should not be allowed at my funeral. Even if I die today, she should never come to my funeral. That’s how deep it is.”

The remarks come months after a highly public dispute that began in July 2026 over unpaid royalties, song releases and personal matters. The two artists, once celebrated for a string of successful collaborations including Such Kinda Love, Amor, Jeraha, Zichune and Ulinihukumu, saw their professional relationship collapse amid mutual accusations.

Jovial first raised concerns about payments during an interview, claiming she had received little financial return despite the commercial success of their joint tracks. She alleged she had been paid only once  a KSh 150,000 cheque in March 2023  and described periods of hardship, including sleeping on the floor, while their music performed well. She also vowed never to collaborate with Otile again.



Otile responded by defending his actions, saying he had sent payments when possible, written the bulk of their material, funded music videos and covered hospital bills and transport costs after the birth of her child. He accused her of releasing Ulinihukumu without his consent and, in a particularly personal development, claimed a DNA test had confirmed he was not the father of her child.

The exchange grew heated on social media before Jovial publicly apologised in mid-July, citing the need to protect her peace and shield her child from the controversy. She described the situation as “my mess” and sought to end the public back-and-forth.



Despite the apology, Otile’s latest comments reveal that the rift remains unresolved. In the podcast interview, he linked his firm stance to a broader view of relationships and accountability, rejecting suggestions that he takes personal grievances too seriously. He framed the decision as a reflection of how deeply the hurt runs.

The funeral declaration has reignited online debate among Kenyan music fans, many of whom once viewed the pair as one of the industry’s most successful collaborative acts. Their earlier chemistry produced multiple chart-friendly tracks that resonated widely, making the sustained animosity all the more striking.

Neither artist has issued an immediate formal response to the latest comments beyond the podcast appearance. Industry observers note that public feuds of this nature often draw significant attention but can also complicate future professional opportunities and personal reputations.
